LEWISTON — The works of a painter and a photographer-painter are now being featured at the Central Maine Medical Center Woman’s Hospital Association Rotating Art Gallery.
Paintings by Sheila Patrick and photographs and paintings by Kathy Cain are on display at CMMC.
Patrick started painting in her 40s while living in Massachusetts, where she studied painting with Margaret Fernside and life drawing with King Coffin. She has also ventured into acrylics and watercolors, and enjoys searching for old frames that complement her artwork. A Newfoundland native, many of her paintings depict the region’s natural beauty.
Cain, of Oxford, holds degrees in art education and nursing. She has worked as a medical illustrator and her work has been published in medical journals and textbooks.
Her interest in photography arose from her work as a painter and illustrator and she pursued education in photography, developing a special interest in the use of filters to “create an emotional context to her subjects.” In 2006 she won a blue ribbon at the Maine Sportsman’s Show for landscape photography.
The artists’ works will be on display through Sept. 25.
