JAY — The Jay Village Water District fixed a waterline break Friday morning on Smith Avenue in the same area one occurred in July, Superintendent Mike Wells said.

Once water is turned on again, a boil-water order will be in effect for customers who have lost their water. The order will last three days.

The water should be boiled for one minute,  Wells said previously. That includes water for drinking, brushing teeth and making ice cubes.

The break was reported at 6:45 a.m. Friday, he said.

The Town Office and police station are among the places without water.

The Jay Village district has been plagued with waterline breaks in the old pipes for the past couple of years. The district is planning to replace the lines in the future.

The Jay Village and the North Jay water districts are quasi-municipalities that are run by a Board of Trustees and are not affiliated with the town.

Questions should be directed to the water office at 207-645-2812 or, in case of an emergency, to Wells, who is superintendent of both districts, at 207-578-1528.
