Car club to hold cruise-in

OXFORD — The Uptown Cruizahs Car Club will gather from 11 a.m to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, at Tractor Supply, Route 26, for their end-of-season cruise-in.

DJ “Red Wing” will be on hand playing tunes of the past and present. Club members will be busy throughout the day providing fantastic food at reasonable prices.

There will be a 50/50 pot and door prizes, in addition to the antique, classic or customized vehicles on display.

As with the Monday night cruise nights, this event will be held weather permitting. Proceeds will benefit local charities. For more information, call Les Wing at 890-0870.

RCAM annual meeting Sept. 15

LEEDS — The 44th Annual Meeting of the Rural Community Action Ministry will take place at 6 p.m. Monday, Sept. 15, at the office on 81 Church Hill Road.

A new slate of board members will be elected. The public is invited to attend.

Historical Society potluck, talk

WEST PARIS — Many guests visited West Paris Historical Society’s museum on Sundays during the month of August.

The society would like to thank Carol Belski, Tanya Collette, Peter Collette and Ted and Betty Jones for their time manning the museum. And a special thank you to curator Elaine Emery.

There will be a potluck supper at 6 p.m. Monday, Sept. 15, followed by a short business meeting at 7 p.m.

Author Annette Vance Dorey will then talk about her books on early female physicians in Maine.

Free conference for vets, family

FARMINGTON — Bringing Worlds Together, a free conference for military veterans, family/community members and service providers will be held from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, at University of Maine, Farmington.

Keynote speaker will be Kayla Williams,  Arabic linguist and military intelligence, who wrote the books, “Love My Rifle More Than You. Young and Female in the US Army” and “Plenty of Time When We Get Home, Love and Recovery In the Aftermath of War.”

The featured speaker, Robert H. Moore, is a board-certified traumatologist.

‘Maine At Work’ play performance

BUCKFIELD — The Zadoc Long Free Library and the Maine Humanities Council will sponsor a free performance of David Greenham’s play “Maine At Work” at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 18, at the Performing Arts Room at Buckfield Junior/Senior High School.

The play weaves together humor and little-known historical facts about working in Maine, and it also raises questions about the nature of work today, especially the challenges and rewards facing workers in many rural Maine communities.

It is geared for adult and teen audiences.

History of canning to be topic

PARIS — This month’s meeting of the Paris Cape Historical Society will take place at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 18, at its museum at 77 High St.

After a brief business meeting Ben Conant and several members of the society will present a history of South Paris canning factories, including Burnham & Morrill and A.L. Stewart. Refreshments will be served after the meeting. The public is welcome to come and learn more about the town of South Paris and its thriving businesses.

AMVETS chicken pie supper

PARIS — AMVETS Post 777 serving Oxford Hills will hold a public chicken pie supper on Saturday, Sept. 20, at the VFW Post 7987 on Lower Main Street, South Paris.

The first sitting will be held from 4:30 to 5:15 and the second from 5:15 to 6 p.m.

The meal will include chicken pie, potato, carrots, cranberry sauce, salad, dinner rolls and dessert. Adults, $8; children 12 and under, $4.

Sumner scholarship fundraiser

SUMNER — A Sumner Scholarship fundraiser, the first annual barbecue cook off supper, will be held from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, at West Sumner Universalist Church Vestry.

Menu includes pulled pork, brisket and ribs, beans, cole slaw, corn on the cob, mac and cheese, rolls, dessert and beverage.

Cost is $7 for adults, $5 for children under 10 years old.
