Afternoon activities include a pie sale, musical guests Neil James and the Every Other Sunday band, a Victorian fashion show, and tours of the elegant 1867 Washburn family mansion. New this year is a student poster display and a print craft activity for children. The Norlands’ gift shop will also be open. Admission is $5 per person and free for ages 12 and under.

All proceeds benefit the living history center’s programs.

The day starts at 1 p.m. with a pie sale and tours. Whole pies will be for sale while supplies last. Pie slices will be served up with real whipped cream for a donation. Step back into the post-Civil War years and learn about the Washburn family. Tours will highlight the art work of Cadwallader Lincoln Washburn (1866-1965), known internationally for his drypoint etchings.

Throughout the afternoon, children can follow in the footsteps of Cadwallader Lincoln by making simple and fun reverse prints using paper and paint.

Starting at 1:30 p.m., professional musician and teacher Neil James and his student Joey McGrath will open the show with traditional tunes played on the violin. Afterward, enjoy the rockin’ tunes of Neil James’ Every Other Sunday band.

At 3 p.m., enjoy a fashion show performed by Norlands’ own interpretive staff. The show features the women’s Victorian-era clothing. Watch and learn as interpreters, dressed as Washburn women and their help, demonstrate how one outfit may be transformed with 19th-century style accessories. Witness the secrets and the many layers of 19th-century dress code.

During the afternoon visitors can view a display of posters, drawn by third graders from Jay Elementary and Livermore Elementary schools. After a field trip to the Norlands this spring, students were asked to illustrate their favorite activity at Norlands. Student names will be entered into a drawing and the top three winners will be awarded a special prize. Each child will receive a certificate of appreciation. The drawing takes place at 3:45 p.m.
