BANGOR — U.S. Sen. Susan Collins hits the road this week on a three-day bus tour of the state as part of her re-election campaign.
Collins, a Republican, is running for a fourth term in the U.S. Senate against Democrat Shenna Bellows, the former executive director of the American Civil Liberties Union of Maine.
Earlier in August, Bellows walked nearly the length of the state from Houlton to Kittery in a 350-mile trek.
Collins’ campaign announced Monday the “All of Maine” bus tour, which will start at 8:45 a.m. Tuesday in Bangor.
The tour will travel more than 350 miles the first three days with stops in seven of the state’s 16 counties. The tour will continue through the remaining nine counties through November, a release from Collins’ campaign stated.
“The bus tour is a Maine election year tradition,” Steve Abbott, the campaign manager said in a prepared statement. “With the help of our extensive grass-roots leadership team of more than 560 town and county chairs, the bus tour will give Sen. Collins the opportunity to visit tens of thousands of voters throughout all of Maine.”
Tuesday’s stops will be in Bangor, Hampden, Hermon, Newport and Skowhegan for a visit to the New Balance shoe factory and Gifford’s Ice Cream.
On Wednesday, the tour resumes at 8 a.m. at Simones Hot Dog Stand in Lewiston before traveling to Hiram, Cornish, Limerick, Waterboro, East Waterboro, Alfred, Springvale and Sanford. The tour will wind up at Mill 67 for a happy hour from 5:30 to 7 p.m.
On Thursday, the tour restarts at 8:15 a.m. at Congdon’s Donut Shop in Wells before traveling to Wells, Kittery, Saco, Scarborough, Portland and Bath.
