Meet the elder Brackett, same as the younger Brackett.
For the third consecutive week, someone from the prominent Buckfield racing family wheeled into the winner’s circle in the Budweiser Pro Late Model Series at Oxford Plains Speedway, with father Tim ending son T.J.’s two-race winning streak.
Tim Brackett, now in his fifth decade of competition at the track, reeled in Quinny Welch and cruised to the 50-lap victory.
Welch held on for second. By virtue of T.J. Brackett’s third-place finish and Shawn Martin of Turner running fifth, Martin’s point lead over the third-generation racer unofficially shrank to two points with two races to go on the slate.
Chris Coolidge claimed fourth place in the main event. Shane Green, Tim Brackett and Kyle DeSouza picked up heat race victories.
Multi-time Street Stock champion Kurt Hewins returned to form with a 35-lap victory. It was only the third start for the Leeds driver in his old haunt since shelving a struggling Pro Late Model ride.
Hewins overtook B.J. Chapman late in the event. Hewins’ son, Ryan, was third, trailed by Zach Emerson and Corey Morgan. Point leader Spencer Morse could only rally to a 13th-place finish after an early spin and took a serious hit in the standings.
Troy Jordan of Turner continued his domination of the Outlaw Sportsman ranks, with Guy Childs Sr., Dale Lawrence, Steve Moon and Gerry Freve in tow.
Hal Clark and Neil Martin won events for the Wicked Good Vintage Racing Association.
Sanborn wins at Ridge; Farrington at doorstep
Dave Farrington Jr. almost turned next week’s final NASCAR Pro Series race of the season at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway into a curtain call.
The mathematics didn’t quite shake out in Farrington’s favor, though, so he’ll have to sweat out one more commute from Jay to Scarborough and take the final green flag before he can officially celebrate a championship.
Farrington finished fifth Saturday night, surviving a caution-filled, 50-lap feature and protecting his substantial point lead over Kelly Moore and Reid Lanpher.
Trevor Sanborn carried the checkers, giving him victories in the top division at both Oxford and Beech Ridge this season.
Eight yellow flags slowed the event. Bill Rodgers led the first 27 laps, then exchanged the top spot with Mike Fowler twice. Sanborn fought past Fowler with three-wide maneuver to snag second before reeling in Rodgers.
Nick Cusack raced from the rear of the field, falling one spot shy of his second consecutive win. Rodgers led Fowler and Farrington across the stripe.
Wildcat point leader Justin Karkos of Livermore Falls also did his part to stay on track for the championship, finishing third in that feature.
Lewis Anderson was the winner, with Ed Connolly second.
One of the most successful female racers in Maine history, Sally Gherardi, scored the Sport Series victory. Garrett Hall and Brandon Barker completed the top three.
Childs claims elusive Wiscasset win
It wasn’t the main event of the evening for four-cylinder cars, but Wiscasset Speedway Outlaw Mini point leader Jimmy Childs of Leeds was plenty thrilled with a 25-lap feature win.
Childs claimed his first victory of the season in a hard-fought battle with Rob Greenleaf and Turner’s Calvin Rose Jr.
Matt Moore of Mechanic Falls was fourth, followed by Michael Bolduc.
Wiscasset welcomed the North East Mini Stock Tour to the high-banked oval for its only Maine appearance of the season, and Toby Wells of Dublin, N.H., notched the 50-lap triumph.
Maine drivers ruled the remainder of the top five, with Justin Trombley of Winter Harbor second, Tim Collins of Windsor third, Zach Audet of Skowhegan fourth and Shawn Kimball of Augusta fifth.
In a battle of past champions, Charlie Colby topped Scott Chubbuck for the Pro Stock win. Jeff Burgess, Nick Hinkley and Dylan Turner completed the top five.
Jeff Prindall of Lisbon had endured tough luck since starting the season with four consecutive wins, but he returned to form with a New England 4-Cylinder Pro Stock victory over Craig Dunn of Strong. Jay Bailey took third.
James Osmond collected the Super Street win ahead of Adam Chadbourne and Pownal’s Kenny Harrison.
‘Joey Pole’ annexes ACT crown
Joey Polewarczyk Jr. of Hudson, N.H., returned to victory lane on the American-Canadian Tour with Saturday’s win in the Can-Am 200 at Riverside Speedway in St. Croix, Quebec.
He unofficially clinched the 2014 series championship in the process.
Polewarczyk raced to the lead when fellow Granite State racer Wayne Helliwell Jr. fell off the pace with 22 laps to go, then held off Canadian chargers Alex Labbe and Jean-Francois Dery to win the international showcase. Steven Boissonneault and Jonathan Bouvrette completed a mostly-Quebec top five.
Rowland Robinson Jr. of Steuben and Ben Ashline of Pittston were the next Americans in line, sixth and seventh. Winthrop’s Jeff White was 10th.
