LISBON — A tractor-trailer overturned Thursday morning on Route 9, spilling its load of animal parts, injuring the driver and filling the air with a foul odor.

Wyatt Robinson, 32, of Utica, N.Y., complained of chest and stomach pain and was taken to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston by Lisbon Emergency, police said. He was treated and released.

Robinson was driving south in a 2012 Mack truck owned by JC Rendering of Frankfort, N.Y., when he failed to negotiate a curve, Lisbon police Sgt. Scott Stewart said reading from officer Glen Darby’s report. The truck went onto the shoulder and rolled onto its side.

Driver inattention and speed may have contributed to the accident, he said the report indicated. No charges were filed against Robinson, Stewart said Thursday night.

The highway was closed three hours while the Maine Department of Environmental Protection contained a diesel fuel spill and local contractors Hunters Truck Service and Rick Mason Excavation helped right the truck and clean up the animal parts.

Lisbon Fire Department was also at the scene.

The DEP will return Friday to continue the work, Stewart said.

It was not known where the truck picked up the load and where it was headed, Stewart said. It was also unclear where the animal parts were being stored, but Stewart said it was not at the police station.

“I understand it was extremely smelly,” he said.

“We’re thinking there’ll be road kill at the site,” Stewart said, because the smell will attract animals.
