PARIS — A business partnership has donated 150 acres abutting the Oxford County Regional Airport in Oxford to the county.

Fiddle Head Partners, an Oxford-based partnership of John Schiavi and Win Carrick, has transferred a deed for the parcel to the county for free. 

County Administrator Scott Cole said the non-cash, charitable contribution was a culmination of a verbal offer last year.

The land is an undeveloped, continuous parcel east of the county airport, which is behind Oxford Plains Speedway along Number Six Road. The area is generally flat with some low-lying, wet areas and has been recently harvested for timber, Cole said. 

There is no development planned on the site, he said. 

The land abuts the county airport, which assumed operation of Oxford Aviation, the sole tenant, after the company was evicted in April. 

“It’s good for an airport to operate the land around it to the greatest extent possible,” Cole said. “With that in mind, this is a good thing.” 

One of the restrictions on development of any land abutting the airport is building height, which Cole said the Federal Aviation Administration imposes for safety. 

“As a practical matter, those issues don’t surface,” he said.

The land will be tax-exempt, like other county holdings. 

Schiavi, vice president of Schiavi Homes, a modular-home builder along Route 26 in Oxford, did not return a call Wednesday. 

Per the deed, Carrick’s listed address is Austin, Texas. 

In 2007, Fiddle Head Partners donated easement rights to the county for land next to both ends of the airport runway.
