AUBURN — City officials want to hear from potential users of an indoor turf field in Pettingill Park.
The city has scheduled a meeting Wednesday, Aug. 20, to discuss converting the former hockey rink into new uses.
City officials and members of the Recreation and Special Events Advisory Board are inviting people and groups interested in using an indoor turf field to a meeting at 6 p.m. at the Hasty Community Center. The center is next to the arena, at 48 Pettingill Park Road.
Auburn began operating its new dual-surface facility, the Norway Savings Bank Ice Arena, last fall, as a replacement for Ingersoll Arena. Since then, the city has been considering ways to reuse the old arena.
According to the study performed by Cordjia Capital Projects Group, a multi-use turf field and indoor tennis or basketball courts are some of the potential uses for the Ingersoll Arena. The study is a business and marketing survey of the arena and groups that might be interested in using the building.
The Advisory Board is in favor of converting it to an indoor turf facility.
The first part of the session will be for Auburn residents interested in using the turf facility for recreational programs through Auburn Recreation.
The Advisory Board also wants to hear from groups that would want to rent the facility. Those could include schools, colleges, adult leagues, youth leagues, senior groups and lacrosse, field hockey, baseball, softball, soccer and running teams.
