DIXFIELD — The in-ground oil tank at Meroby Elementary School in Mexico must be replaced because the exterior lining leaks, Regional School Unit 10 directors were told Monday.
Kenny Robbins, director of buildings, grounds and transportation, said the doubled-lined tank has been condemned by the Maine Department of Environmental Protection. The tank must be removed and the cost is estimated at about $12,000, he said.
Robbins was directed to look into the types of replacements, which could include a tank for propane, and costs.
Robbins also advised that there is mold in the cafeteria area of the Pennacook Learning Center in Rumford. It’s most likely caused by the wet summer, he said. The cost to remove it is estimated at about $12,300.
At Mountain Valley High School in Rumford, where there was extensive damage from roof leaks this past winter, the roof has been sealed and Muskie Auditorium will likely be repaired by the end of the week, he said. The damage estimate, at about $78,000, has been referred to the district’s insurance company.
In other matters, Superintendent Craig King said Hanover selectmen have asked to meet with him and the Finance Committee to discuss the school funding formula.
King has also offered to meet Byron officials to discuss the status and procedure for seeking withdrawal from the district.
King said the Personnel Committee has scheduled interviews for positions.
Also on Monday, Pennacook Learning Center instructors Chris Brennick and Dave Radcliffe were appointed as co-athletic directors for Dirigo and Mountain Valley middle schools in Dixfield and Mexico, respectively.
Resignations handled at Monday’s meeting included Dirigo Elementary School educational technician Lynn Morse, Buckfield Junior-Senior High School head custodian Susan Litchfield, bus driver/custodian Nathan Storer and Dirigo High School varsity girls soccer coach Sara Thurston.
Teachers workshops are set for Monday and Tuesday, Aug. 25 and 26. Students will start classes Wednesday, Aug. 27.
The board will meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 25, at Dirigo High School in Dixfield.
The meeting began with a moment of silence in memory of Rumford Elementary School first-grade teacher, Amy Breton, who died unexpectedly.
