I would expect that there are several people in the community who care for family members. We have a son who has lived with us for 52 years.

Every once in a while, even parents need a break. Before Gov. Paul LePage took office, we were allowed five days per month for respite; that has been cut now to 11 days per year.

Approximately three months ago, we requested respite for four days so we could attend a festival in northern Maine. Just a few days ago, after repeated phone calls, I was told that a lady in Unity would do it. We live in Livermore Falls and she said she would meet us halfway. That means there would be no visit to the home, no orientation for our son.

That is totally unacceptable.

I shall vote for Mike Michaud. The elderly and disabled deserve a voice again.
