NORWAY — A range of electronic devices will be available for residents who are curious to learn about their use at the Norway Memorial Library from Aug. 12 to 22.

The Technology Petting Zoo, a traveling exhibit loaned to libraries by the Maine State Library, will provide an overview on how to use e-readers and tablets for anyone who wants to learn more.

Jared Leadbetter, technology consultant at the state library, will answer questions and teach librarians on opening day.

“We have been really interested in making libraries the centers for digital literacy,” Leadbetter said.

The petting zoo features six of the most popular consumer devices, including Nook Simple Touch, Kindle Fire, Kindle Paperwhite, Apple iPad Mini, Nook HD+ and the Google Nexus.

Leadbetter said it can be difficult for people to explore the potential to use these devices in their lives outside of the pressure of a store.

As ownership of personal devices becomes more popular, Leadbetter hopes to train librarians to pass knowledge along to more people, especially small business owners.

“It’s far more instructive to get these devices in people’s hands rather than listening to someone jabber on about them,” he said.

The library is at 258 Main St.
