GREENWOOD — Mt. Abram Ski Resort is planning to upgrade its snowmaking system and water-pumping capacity, Marketing Director Jamie Schectman said Tuesday.

The cost of the renovations is expected to be approximately $300,000, Schectman said. A Maine Efficiency Incentive grant of $14,200 will pay for part of the work.

Among the renovations are construction of a 20- by 30-foot pump house and two variable-speed drives to put in it.

The renovations will quadruple the uphill water capacity and pressure. The work is one of the largest capital improvements at Mt. Abram over the past 15 years, according to a news release.

The pump house is expected to be completed in time for the upcoming season, the release stated.

The Maine Efficiency Incentive Grant is part of the Efficiency Maine Business Program.

“We are extremely excited to bring forward a consistent, high-quality, affordable skiing experience to our local communities,” Dave Scanlan, Mt. Abram’s general manager, said. “Our new system will ensure that we are able to open our mountain with more trails by mid-December and allow us to rebound faster from challenging weather events.

“This shows our guests that we are committed to upgrading the skiing and riding experience,” Scanlan said. “Having the ability to move more water onto the mountain will also allow us to revisit our terrain park options as well as looking at expanding snowmaking onto additional slopes in the future.”
