CANTON — Police arrested a local man early Monday morning following a foot chase through the woods.
Antonio Fuentes, 24, of Farrand Hill Road in Canton was arrested around 1 a.m. Monday on charges of aggravated operating after revocation, operating after revocation, operating under the influence and failure to stop for an officer, police said.
According to a police affidavit, Maine State Police Trooper Paul Casey was traveling south on Route 108 in Canton around 9:30 p.m. when he attempted to pull over Fuentes for speeding. Fuentes took off, eventually pulling onto Farrand Drive where he fled the car on foot.
Casey chased him across Route 108 into a patch of woods and sand pit, where he lost track of him.
Casey was joined by Maine State Police Trooper Shane Sullivan, who tried to track Fuentes with night vision goggles. Around 10:10 p.m., a tracking dog was called in and traced Fuentes to his brother’s residence up the road.
Upon arrest, Casey said he smelled alcohol on Fuentes’ breath and determined he was intoxicated, the affidavit said.
Fuentes was wanted on two outstanding warrants for failure to appear in court, criminal mischief, unpaid fines, domestic violence assault and assault. He was declared a habitual offender in 2009 after his license was revoked following charges of leaving the scene of an accident, operating under the influence and operating without a license.
He was transported to the Oxford County Jail in Paris and held on $500 cash bail.
