AUBURN — Firefighters quickly knocked down a fire at 52 Summer St. Sunday night.

According to Battalion Chief Scott Hunter, what was initially reported as a bathroom fire just before 8 p.m. turned out to be burning cardboard in a first-floor storage room.

Auburn Engines 3, 5 and 2 flanked the street as well as Ladder 1 as firefighters quickly doused the flames and set up fans that billowed smoke out across Summer Street as Auburn police temporarily closed the road to traffic.

“There’s some smoke and a little bit of water damage,” Hunter said, adding residents should be able to return to their homes for the night.

According to Hunter, the cause is still under investigation at the LA Property Management-run building.
