FARMINGTON — The Farmington Police Department continued their efforts to slow down motorists this weekend.

During a four-hour speed enforcement detail on Lucy Knowles Road on Friday, drivers of 10 vehicles received summons for speeding.

The department noticed recent excessive speeding violations on Lucy Knowles Road in Farmington, including some violations in which a motorist was going 83 mph in a 50 mph zone and another going 98 mph in a 50 mph zone, caught last week by Franklin County Sheriff’s Cpl. Nathan Bean.

The speeding violations Friday included another person cited for criminal speed. This vehicle was going 63 mph in a 30 mph zone.

Friday’s speeding tickets cost motorists approximately $2,000.

Officers of the department wish to remind everyone on the road that they will continue their efforts to reduce speeding-related traffic offenses.

In January, the department was awarded a speed enforcement grant, funded by the Maine Bureau of Highway Safety. These grant funds provide the department with additional patrol shifts, focusing on speeding motorists.

The officers ask the public to “Please help us meet our mission: ‘Creating a feeling of safety for the people within the Town of Farmington’ by being vigilant about your speed and slow down.”
