FARMINGTON — Farmington Fire and Rescue will host the Maine Federation of Firefighters’ Convention on Sept. 5, 6 and 7.

A parade will take place starting at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 6. It will start from the Farmington Fairgrounds, follow High Street to Broadway, go down Main Street to Prescott and back up to Maple Avenue and the fairgrounds, fire Chief Terry Bell said Monday.

There is no theme to the parade, and any group, organization, business or individual is welcome to enter a float, he said. Registrations are open until Sept. 5, so convention organizers will know who and what to expect in the parade, he said. Bands are also welcome to participate.

Anyone interested in entering the parade may call the Fire Department at 778-3235.

This is the third time the department has hosted the convention. They previously did so in 1985 and again in 1994, he said.

A comedy show is scheduled for Friday night and a dance on Saturday night. Both events are open to the public for $10 admission for each event.

More information about the convention will be available next week, he said.
