Historical Society membership meeting
DIXFIELD — The Dixfield Historical Society will hold a membership and directors’ meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 7, at the Museum House, 59 Main St.
Final plans for the open house on Sunday, Aug. 17, and general business that needs to be conducted will be discussed.
A raffle gift basket will be offered, and items are needed from members. To donate an item, bring it to the meeting or drop it off at Towle’s Hardware by Aug. 13. New members are welcome.
St. Joseph’s Church summer bazaar
BRIDGTON — St. Joseph’s Church Women’s Guild will hold a summer bazaar from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, at 225 South High St.
There will be baked goods, crafts, jewelry, plants, a white elephant sale and hot dogs, lobster rolls and chicken salad sandwiches.
Raffle items will include a queen-size quilt, a pair of kayaks and a fiberglass canoe.
Assorted vendors will also have craft tables.

Artifacts from Benedict Arnold march
STRATTON — On Aug. 10, The Dead River Area Historical Society is pleased that Ken Wing will exhibit what is believed to be the largest collection of artifacts from the Arnold March. The meeting will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Wing will share the story of how Col. Benedict Arnold marched through Maine on his Trek to Quebec City in the 1700s during the Revolutionary War.
Ken and his dad spent many years searching the area of General Arnold’s march with a metal detector and found a wide assortment of items left by Arnold and his men. He will also have his book, “The Lost Villages of Flagstaff Lake,” available for sale as well as signing.
Honey Bee Club summer gathering
WATERFORD — Oxford Hills Honey Bee Club’s annual pot luck summer gathering will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 10, at the home of Christopher and Paula Easton, 763 Mill Hill Road, Waterford (for directions go to mainehoneybees.com).
Bring a favorite dish and a lawn chair. Weather permitting there will be an open hive, so bring a bee veil.

Annual Tyngtown Tee Time
WILTON — Teams are forming for the fifth annual Tyngtown Tee Time planned for Saturday, Aug. 23, at the Wilson Lake Country Club.
Tee time is at 8 a.m. with a scrambles format. The cost is $50 per player which includes a breakfast snack and gourmet lunch. Cost of a cart rental is $10 per player. Sign up is at the WLCC, 645-2016.
Lunch is available for non-golfers at $10 and reservations may be made by calling Trish at 645-4443. The lunch is served under the tents from noon to 2 p.m. with live music.
Raffles and a putting contest are open to all.
Tyngtown’s fundraiser benefits the Wilton Library, Wilton Early Childhood Center, downtown window box flowers, children’s programs and scholarships.
Peru Historical Society meeting
PERU — The Peru Historical Society will meet at 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 14, at the Historical Society building.
The group is in need of two wooden tables, if anyone has any to donate.
Society seeks yard sale items
HEBRON — The Hebron Historical Society is planning a fundraising yard sale for Saturday, Aug. 16. Donated items are wanted and will be picked up. Call 966-2177 or 966-2023.
The yard sale will be held from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Hebron Historical Society, 358 Paris Road.
Northwoods Gravel Grind planned
RANGELEY — The Northwoods Gravel Grind is the first ever Gravel Grind in Maine, taking place on Sunday, Sept. 7. This 35-mile bicycle race starts at Moose Alley in Rangeley, travels through beautiful, albeit hilly, terrain with access to private gated roads granted from Seven Islands Land Management.
A $100 cash prize will be awarded to top male and female event finishers. All participants will receive a commemorative Northwoods Gravel Grind moisture wicking jersey.
The Northwoods Gravel Grind is also raffling off a new Kona Mahuna Mountain Bike the day of the race. Tickets are on sale now and race registration is open. Proceeds from the race and raffle will benefit the Big Brothers Big Sisters mentoring program of Community Concepts.
