RUMFORD — The three youths from Rumford and Mexico responsible for the 5K fundraiser for the Black Mountain Ski Resort are bringing it back for a second straight year.

The second annual Hit the Track for Black 5K is being held Sunday, Aug. 3, at Hosmer Field, with registration beginning at 7 a.m. and the race starting at 8 a.m.

The idea for a 5K run came from 15-year old Curtis Gauvin of Rumford and fellow skiers Avery and Riley Sevigny of Mexico. All three wanted to do something for Black Mountain Ski Resort after learning it did not get funds from the town following the 2013 town referendum.

Over 200 people registered for the 5K in 2013, Marie Gauvin, Curtis’ mother, said.

The 5K will begin and end at Hosmer Field, with the route weaving in and out of Rumford neighborhoods.

The entry fee is $25, and all ages are welcome to participate.

Runners can register the day of the race, online at active.com, or pick up a registration form at Davis Florist, Adley’s Auto, Rite Aid, Hair Design or Ta-Dah.

For more information, call Marie Gauvin at 357-2684 or Cheryl Sevigny at 364-4708.
