In his letter (July 22), Cornelius Swanton correctly stated that President George W. Bush asked for and received support from Congress for the U.S. involvement in Iraq.
Swanton also stated “all available intelligence indicated that Iraq possessed WMDs.” But there were no WMDs in Iraq. It was flawed intelligence.
To date, both wars (Iraq and Afghanistan) have cost $1.6 trillion (source, Department of Defense), and that doesn’t count veterans’ benefits.
Wrongful war, massive expense, no clear victory in sight — what else could President Obama do? What could any president do?
Get out.
