UPDATED 11:50 a.m.
SACO — A Lewiston woman was killed early Sunday morning when her car left the roadway and rolled into a utility pole.
Internet and social media traffic identified the driver as 22-year-old Sam Sabourin.
According to published reports, the crash happened shortly after 2 a.m. on Buxton Road in the area of Grant Road near the Buxton town line.
Speed and alcohol were likely factors in the crash, according to Saco Deputy Chief Jeff Holland.
Witnesses reported that Sabourin passed several vehicles at a high rate of speed before losing control and striking a pole, Holland told the Bangor Daily News.
The vehicle rolled and came to a rest on the driver’s side.
Reports said she was the only occupant of the vehicle in the accident that closed the road for more than two hours while officers reconstructed the scene and CMP repaired the pole.
A gofundme fundraising page has been established to assist Sabourin’s family through this tragedy. Donations can be made at www.gofundme.com/c6lp8w.
