This is in response to two articles that appeared on the front page of the Sun Journal (July 22). One was “Kids Count report: Maine children healthier, poorer.”
Within the article, it was stated that parents are below the poverty line because they lack secure employment, and that economic well-being dropped from 20th to 29th.
On the same page was an article stating that the South Portland councilors had voted to ban tar sands oil.
As far as I am concerned, South Portland’s vote is a “pro-poverty” vote. They don’t want good-paying jobs in the energy sector. It follows the pro-poverty vote in Searsport, where people voted against the LNG port there.
Are all Maine people pro-poverty?
