LIVERMORE FALLS — The driver of a pulp truck loaded with wood was injured Wednesday afternoon when the truck crashed into a Pan Am Railways train on Main Street near the Bank Building.
Jeremy Tillson, 25, of Sidney told police he did not hear the train or the bells or see the train before the truck crossed the railroad crossing, Livermore Falls police Sgt. Vern Stevens said.
Tillson was taken by a NorthStar EMS ambulance to Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington with injuries that were not life-threatening. He was treated and released, Stevens said.
Tillson was heading north toward Jay and the train was heading south toward East Livermore.
The train hit the truck behind the cab and the truck rolled onto its side, spilling the wood on to the ground, the sergeant said.
The 2006 Western Star is owned by Tillson & Sons of Sidney, which is a family business, Stevens said. The rig was heavily damaged, he said.
He said Jeremy Tillson was issued a summons for failing to obey a railroad warning device. The traffic violation carries a $311 fine.
The accident occurred at about 3 p.m. The crash closed the road for several hours. Traffic was detoured around the site.
