WAYNE — The 30 Mile River Watershed Association will host its sixth annual Paddle Trek on Saturday, July 26.

This event offers paddlers an opportunity to experience the watershed from a new perspective as they travel by canoe and kayak through many of the lakes that form the “30 Mile River.” This daylong, guided trip goes from Mt. Vernon Village to Wayne Village, along 15 miles of connected lakes and streams, with varying lengths and ending points for those wanting a shorter trip.

The trek begins at Minnehonk Lake in Mt. Vernon at 7:30 a.m. The trip route proceeds down Hopkins Pond, Hopkins Stream, Taylor Pond, Echo Lake and its Mill Pond, Lovejoy Pond, Pickerel Pond and Pocasset Lake, ending in Wayne at approximately 3 p.m.

Through this once-a-year opportunity, participants will be permitted to travel a continuous route, thanks to the generous landowners that grant permission to portage across their property for this event.

The trip is split into four parts – with the option of paddling one, two, three or all four parts. Some parts require a person to portage their boat because of a dam or other impasse. Paddlers may join the group at any of the four meeting points, and return shuttles will be available at three locations. People of all ages and skill level enjoy this yearly trek.
