HOULTON — Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Shenna Bellows began a 350-mile march across Maine on Sunday.
Bellows is hoping to raise her profile in the race against incumbent Republican Sen. Susan Collins.
Her trip, which she has dubbed “a Walk with Maine for Jobs and the Economy,” started in Houlton. She plans to visit 63 communities during the three-and-a-half-week journey by foot to Kittery.
The former executive director of the American Civil Liberties Union of Maine has said she’s eager to listen to voters and bring their concerns with her to Washington if she’s elected in November.
Bellows isn’t the first candidate to trek across Maine. William Cohen walked 600 miles across the 2nd Congressional District when he ran for the seat in the 1972 before becoming Secretary of Defense.
