LEWISTON — The Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul on Ash St. will host a summer concert series that is free and open to the public. Donations to restore the Casavant Organ will be accepted.

From 12:15-12:45 p.m. Wednesday, July 30, the Maine Music Society Chamber Singers will perform. The group is composed of about 20 singers, all members of the Androscoggin Chorale. It was formed in the spring of 2013 as a way of expanding the offerings of the Maine Music Society to include smaller venues outside of the regular MMS seasonal concerts.

The group performs a cappella selections of varying styles, including but not limited to madrigals, early American songs, art songs of various kinds, and modern popular tunes. The first season featured a concert at Cumston Hall in Monmouth, an appearance at the Maine Music Society Wine Tasting, and a performance for the 25th anniversary event of the Lewiston Knights of Columbus. The Chamber Singers group is conducted by MMS music director John Corrie, who also sings with the group.
