WILTON — A homeowner fined $9,500 for refusing to clean up his trashy yard has started removing some of the junk, possibly staving off intervention by the town.

The Board of Selectmen last month authorized Town Manager Rhonda Irish to hire a contractor to clean the property and bill homeowner Duane Pollis of Adams Street. Pollis had missed a court-ordered deadline to rid his yard of debris.

The Morning Sentinel reported that some of the items on the lawn included appliances and motor vehicles.

Irish said Pollis has removed motor vehicles and an old boat. The town sent him a letter thanking him for starting the process and encouraging him to continue.

Pollis previously said there is a purpose for everything in his yard and the town was singling him out.
