1923 – 2014
SCARBOROUGH — Helen Bessie Edwards Stowell Davis, 90, a resident of Gray for 64 years, passed away on Tuesday, July 15, at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House.
She was born on Dec. 31, 1923, in Whites Corner, New Gloucester, a daughter of Wallace and Bessie Gross Edwards. Born and raised in New Gloucester, she lived in Gray for 64 years, where she raised her children. She graduated from New Gloucester High School in 1942, and attended her June class reunion.
She retired from Healthtex in Portland, where she worked for 25 years. She was active in the community and was a member of the Gray and New Gloucester historical societies.
She is survived by her daughters, Katherine Colbath and husband, David, of New Gloucester, Ruth Pease and husband, David, of Longmeadow, Mass., Jean Smith and husband, Gary, of Gray and Sylvia Davis of Portland; grandchildren, Stephen Pease, Michele Wilcox and Jenelle Robinson; great-grandchildren, Shaylin, Hailey, Andrew, Indie and MaKayla; and a special niece and nephew, Donna and Larry.
She was predeceased by her parents; husband, Harold “Duke” Stowell; son, Dale Stowell; and sister, Averill Walls.
