LEWISTON — Oak Hill High School Senior Sarah Noel Carpenter has been honored as the recipient of the second Jordan Handy Scholarship. She was awarded a $500 scholarship.

“She truly exemplifies my same passion for the culinary arts and seeks to encourage and foster this same passion in those who seek a career in the culinary world,” said Jordan Handy, founder of the scholarship. I am sure Sarah will do great things in the culinary field.”

Carpenter is someone who has set a high standard for herself in the kitchen during the two years she has spent in the Culinary Arts program, according to Handy. She is a two-year member of the National Technical Honor Society. Chef Dan Caron, head of the Green Ladle, described her as someone who is “dependable, conscientious and eager to learn.”

She has maintained an A average in the Lewiston Regional Technical Center’s culinary program, and also at Oak Hill High School, while working part-time.

The aspiring chef has been accepted into the highly competitive culinary program at the world’s premier culinary college, The Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, N.Y.

According to Handy, there were many reasons as to why the Jordan Handy Scholarship was created. One was to give the graduating students of the Green Ladle Program an opportunity to seek their passion. Another was to give back to the Green Ladle, especially Chef Dan Caron, for preparing him mentally and technically for the best culinary school in the the world.
