AVON — A Franklin County deputy arrested a man Wednesday on a charge of being a fugitive from justice in Colorado, Sheriff Scott Nichols Sr. said.
Nathan Pierce, 53, who had been staying at a camp on East Madrid Road, is on probation for threatening two people with a baseball bat in Colorado for their sexual orientation, Nichols said.
Deputies responded to a report of an intoxicated man at 5K Pizza, who was being disruptive and refused to leave. They gave Pierce a verbal warning and told him to vacate the premises. They also ran a check on him and discovered there was a warrant from Colorado for him for failing to comply with probation with full extradition, Nichols said.
Deputies have been dealing with Pierce since June for nuisance issues, the sheriff said. On July 3, they ran a check on him and the only thing that came up was a protection from abuse order against a Texas woman. Deputies checked on the woman and she was fine, Nichols said.
Pierce was originally arrested by the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office in Colorado on Jan. 4 for threatening two people with a baseball bat, Sgt. Gregory D. White of the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday.
“He made statements at that time that he was threatening them because of their sexual orientation,” White said. He was charged on two felony counts of felony menacing and two misdemeanor counts of a bias-motivated crime, he said.
He was sentenced to four years probation on May 13 for those crimes, he said.
A warrant was issued on June 27 for him for failure to comply with the terms of his probation, White said.
“We are planning on coming and getting him, it depends on if he tries to fight extradition,” he said.
Pierce is scheduled to appear in a Farmington court Friday.
