2014 SAF Maine High School State Championship will be held in Orrington for the first time.

Brewer Lake will be the location. The state championship is a two-person team event for students in grades 9-12. Registration for anglers and their “coach,” who will provide the boat they compete in, is online at HighSchoolFishing.org. Check-in is at 7 a.m. at the Brewer Lake Road launch ramp on Saturday morning, July 19.

A mandatory rules briefing to follow the check-in. We highly encourage all teams to pre-register online or by phone in advance to avoid late registration fees.

Take off will be scheduled for 8 a.m. and the weigh-in will be at 1 p.m. Students and parents can go to HighSchoolFishing.org for details on the Student Angler Federation (SAF) and to sign up. Cost is only $25 per year.

This tournament is part of Orrington’s Old Home Week celebration that also includes the annual Adult Bass Fishing Tournament and a Youth Fishing Day. This will be the perfect time to introduce a child to fishing, see how the “pros” fish and learn about the fastest growing high school sport in the country!

The traditional Bass Tournament is open to all bass fisherman.
