Underwood summer story hours
FAYETTE — The summer story hours with Lady Elaine will begin on July 10 and continue to Aug. 21. They will be held at the Underwood Library on Thursdays at 10 a.m.

WILTON — Doug Rawlings is a Vietnam War veteran, a founding member of Veterans for Peace and professor of writing at the University of Maine at Farmington for 27 years. He resides in Mt. Vernon.
If you missed his reading in Farmington last month, or want to hear him read again, plan on attending a special event at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 10, at Wilton Free Public Library. Books will be available for purchase and signed by the author. Light refreshments will be served.

‘Souper’ supper is July 11
CHESTERVILLE — The Chesterville Grange will hold a public “souper” supper on Friday, July 11, serving between 5 and 6:30 p.m.

Cary Library’s book sale, gala
WAYNE — Cary Memorial Library’s Used Book Sale and Gala will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 11, at the Williams House, 14 Old Winthrop Road.
Friday night Gala tickets are on sale at the library or at the door. Be among the first to shop at the summer book sale of gently used books at great prices. Tickets are $10 per person in advance, $12 per person on the day of the event, and include a glass of wine or lemonade, elegant hors d’oeuvres and homemade desserts.
The Used Book Sale will continue, with no admission charge, on Saturday, July 12, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.; Monday, July 14, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.; Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, July 15-17, from 3 to 6 p.m.; and Saturday, July 19, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
There will be a large selection of fiction and nonfiction, including children’s books, cookbooks, mysteries, best sellers and more, in hardcover and paperback, as well as DVDs and CDs.
On Saturday, July 19, all books will be sold for $1 per bag.

Public supper at Trinity United
FARMINGTON — A public supper will be held from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Saturday, July 12, at Trinity United Methodist Church.
The baked beans and casserole supper will include vegetarian, gluten-free and sugar-free items. The new price will be $7 adults, children under 12 $3.50.

Free community barbecue
LIVERMORE FALLS — A free community barbecue will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the second Saturday of each month from July 12 to Sept. 13 at the American Legion Hall, 17 Reynolds Ave.
The meals are hosted by Emmanuel Assembly of God Church.

‘Tribute to Jesse Caldwell’
STRATTON — On Saturday, July 12, The Dead River Area Historical Society program will be a “Tribute to Jesse Caldwell,” hosted by Jesse’s son, Ralph.
Jess was a prisoner of World War II in Germany from 1944 into 1945. Ralph will share his memorabilia, including his dad’s medals, Purple Heart, Honorable Service medal, hand written letters, list of Stalag his dad was kept in. Jesse didn’t finish high school; as soon as he turned 18 he joined the Army to serve his country and fight for freedom.
Ralph also has photographs and papers to show of Jesse while he was in the service as well as life after he returned home and the jobs he held, such as working on the river drive, scaler in the woods, etc.
The Dead River Area Historical Society is open every weekend throughout July and August from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Displays include a collection of old carpentry and logging tools, china, glass, church organ, furniture from native families, a complete schoolroom, a memorial room to the “lost” towns of Flagstaff and Dead River, the lineage of several native families and a host of memorabilia from native homesteads.
Kingfield Days Soccer Cup
NEW PORTLAND — Those who like playing soccer are invited to put together a seven-member co-ed team for Saturday, July 19. The Western Mountains Baptist Church is hosting their first Kingfield Days Soccer Cup on their new soccer field at the church on Route 27, just outside of Kingfield.
There are two divisions: eighth grade and younger and ninth grade and older. Games will be two 10-minute halves with a five-minute halftime. Overtime will be a five-minute sudden death then penalty kicks (five for each team).
Registration is easy. Email your team name and the name of your team members to freestyleguy401@gmail.com. The cost is $15 per team paid on game day. Deadline is July 17.
Livermore Falls Class of 1949
LIVERMORE FALLS — The Livermore Falls High School Class of 1949 is reminded that their 65th class reunion will be held on Saturday, July 19, at LaFleurs Restaurant in Jay.
A social hour will be held from 11 a.m. to noon and is followed by a luncheon.
