BIDDEFORD — Maine State Police announced on Wednesday morning they have made contact with the two men they believed had information on Sunday night’s double homicide in Biddeford.

An update on the case issued by Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland added that one of the men — Christopher Dube, 28, of Dover, New Hampshire — has been arrested on an unrelated probation violation charge and was taken to York County Jail.

Dube met with detectives and was interviewed about the Biddeford shooting case late Tuesday afternoon, according to McCausland.

The other of the two men, 44-year-old Auburn resident Lance Palmer, who police on Tuesday described as “armed and dangerous,” made contact with police and is expected to be interviewed Wednesday, McCausland said. No charges are pending against Palmer, he said.

In the approximately 48 hours after the Sunday night shootings, investigators have gone on the search for — and found — six individuals of interest in the case, but have thus far made no arrests tied to the homicides.

On Monday afternoon, Lt. Brian McDonough of the Maine State Police told reporters in a news conference at the 19 Western Ave. site of the crimes that police were looking for four people — two men and two women — who were at the home at the time of the crime and fled before detectives could question them.

By Tuesday afternoon, police had located those four individuals, whom they did not identify, and had announced the search for two more, Dube and Palmer.

McCausland has not said why police believe Palmer and Dube may have information on the shootings, but they said in a Tuesday statement “both men may have been in Biddeford on Sunday.”

McCausland has urged anyone with information on the case to call the Maine State Police in Gray at 657-3030.

He said on Tuesday afternoon that investigators have conducted “dozens of interviews with neighbors, friends and family of the dead men and those who live in the apartment house where the shootings took place.”

McDonough identified the shooting victims on Monday as Russell Lavoie, 42, of Old Orchard Beach and Jeffrey Lude, 37, of Biddeford.

Each man apparently died of multiple gunshot wounds, he said, though investigators are reconstructing ballistic evidence to determine whether multiple guns or multiple shooters were involved.

McDonough would not comment on whether any firearms — or any other signs of illegal activity, such as drug use — have been found at the Western Avenue apartment.

“I don’t think this was a random incident,” he said.

Biddeford police received reports of a shooting at the site just after 7 p.m. Sunday and found the victims already wounded.
