I recall a time when people who needed help went first to friends and neighbors and then to their churches and community.

There was a time when jobs were plentiful and those who needed to work were willing to take up a new trade or skill in order to survive. Sadly that seems to have been morphed into an expectation that the government will provide for some without limits.

While a vocal minority have repeatedly attacked Gov. Paul LePage, it is for the reasons above that I fully support him.

His efforts to put Maine on firm financial ground and to weed out corruption at the Maine Turnpike Authority and Maine State Housing, his ability to pay hospitals back debts, to reduce state pension liabilities and strengthen bond ratings are exactly what he promised when he was elected.

He saves Mainers tax dollars every day.

I will be voting for Paul LePage.

Robert Reed, Lewiston
