WILTON — A free summer lunch program at Kineowatha Park began its second year Monday.

From 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Thursday, Nancy Pratt, assistant for the Wilton Recreation program and volunteers provide lunch in the Reunion Barn for children ages 18 and younger. Adults can purchase a meal for $3.

“You never know how many to count on for lunch,” Pratt said. “It’s hard to plan so you just plan on an average number.”

A variety of foods — hot dogs on Wednesday — and fruit and vegetables are served. The menu is subject to change.

Pratt and Cheryl Ellis, Regional School Unit 9 food/nutrition coordinator, prepare meals. The cooking is done at Academy Hill School, Pratt said.

“It’s just like home. You use up what you have,” she said. Hot dog rolls today could become tuna rolls another day, she said.

The meals are part of the Summer Food Service Program through Feed America, a program of the Department of Education and U.S. Department of Agriculture.
