FARMINGTON — Police said an Arizona man was arrested Monday night on a charge of indecent conduct, after they received complaints about him being naked and exposing himself by the Sandy River.
Farmington police received a call about 4 p.m. of a man, later identified as Ronald Oberst, 47, of Tucson, Ariz., being naked and exposing himself to a group of kayakers going down the river, police Chief Jack Peck said.
Officer Darin Gilbert went to the river but could not locate the man, Peck said.
Police received a second call about 6:30 p.m. apparently about the same person exposing himself. He was on a beach area near the railroad trestle on the West Farmington side of the river, Peck said.
Officer Justin Blais responded but did not locate the person either.
At 7:21 p.m., three young men swimming in the river confronted Oberst and stayed there until Gilbert and Blais arrived. The three identified Oberst as the person exposing himself, Peck said.
Police found Oberst had been convicted on similar charges in Arizona and arrested him, Peck said. He was taken to Franklin County Detention Center. No bail was listed as of Tuesday morning.
Oberst apparently had a tent near the river. Police were unsure how long he’s been camping there, Peck said.
Oberst told police he was naked because he was changing his clothes beside his tent.
