PORTLAND — The Federal Aviation Administration is giving $450,000 to two Maine airports for operations and environmental assessment expenses.
Houlton International Airport will receive $300,000 and Sugarloaf Regional Airport in Carrabassett will receive $150,000. Houlton’s money will pay for construction of a 3,400-square-foot snow removal equipment building. Sugar Loaf’s grant will fund an environmental study to evaluate the environmental and economic impact of proposed terminal improvements.
U.S. Rep. Mike Michaud says the funding will help the two airports improve infrastructure. He says the money will ultimately promote air travel across Maine by making sure airports have the resources to operate in an environmentally friendly manner.
