JAY — The Good Neighbor Tri-Town Fuel Assistance program provided $28,083.49 in emergency heating assistance in 2013 to 150 families or 483 individuals. It provided 7,650 gallons of fuel, organization member Paul Gilbert said.

The committee that oversees the Tri-Town Ministerial Association Good Neighbor Fuel Fund is hosting a Belgian waffle breakfast to raise money for the emergency heating assistance program that serves residents in Jay, Livermore and Livermore Falls.

The breakfast is scheduled from 9 to 11 a.m. on July 13 at St. Rose of Lima Church Parish Hall on Church Street in Jay.

Breakfast is $5 per person.

The fuel funds are distributed by Western Maine Community Action in Wilton.

Most of the emergency fuel money is provided between September and December.

The group, now in its sixth year, founded the organization in 2008 and started collecting money in January 2009.

“We receive grants from the three towns,” Gilbert said. “The money is to be used only in emergencies and households can use it once.”

During the heating season, 50 gallons of oil are provided. Anyone in the area in need of fuel should contact Western Maine Community Action.

Donations to the fund are always accepted, he said. Please send donations to Good Neighbors Fuel Fund, P.O. Box 183, Livermore Falls, ME 04294. Checks should be made out to the Tri-Town Ministerial Association Fuel Fund, the group’s 501(c)(3) for tax-deductible donations.

“We have helped many households going through tough times over the years,” Gilbert said. “It is all made possible through the generosity of our neighbors.”

Of the 150 families assisted in 2013, 108 of them (293 individuals) were from Jay, five (19 individuals) were from Livermore and 37 (126 individuals) were from Livermore Falls, according to Gilbert’s information.
