DURHAM, N.H. — The University of New Hampshire is getting some grant money to do research on white-nose syndrome, a fungal infection that has killed hibernating bats in eastern North America.

Jeffrey Foster and Kevin Drees at the University of New Hampshire are part of a team studying bat fungus. Joining them are researchers from the USDA. They are getting nearly $261,000 from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, which announced $1.8 million in grants for eight projects Monday.

Projects include studies to better understand bat immune responses to white-nose syndrome, investigations into methods to control the disease, and ways to examine the molecular infrastructure of the fungus that causes the disease.
