STANDISH — A three-vehicle crash sent three to the hospital and closed Route 25 for more than five hours Monday morning.

In a release from the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department, the incident occurred at 9:05 a.m., involving a Hammond Lumber delivery truck and two other vehicles.

The release said Edmund Seeley, 51, of Lewiston was traveling westbound on Route 25 with passenger Richard Shaw, 54, of Auburn in a Ford van owned by Conelia Shaw of Auburn when it stopped to make a left turn into a parking lot.

At that time, Mathew Wight, 30, of Westbrook was traveling westbound with a load of lumber in a 2002 Mack truck owned by Hammond Lumber Company.

According to the release, Wight was temporarily distracted and did not see Seeley stopped to make his turn and struck Seeley from behind before rolling his truck onto its side.

Seeley’s vehicle was then pushed into eastbound traffic, striking a 2008 Ford pickup truck driven and owned by Clayton Barker, 59, of Standish head-on.

Seeley and Barker’s vehicles then careened off the road, rolling over and entrapping occupants of both vehicles.

Seeley and Shaw were taken to to Maine Medical Center with serious injuries. Barker was taken to Mercy Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Wight sustained cuts and bruises from the incident but was not taken to a hospital.

Fire and rescue personnel from Standish, Gorham, Buxton and Hollis responded to the scene, as well as the Maine Department of Environmental Protection because of diesel spillage from the lumber truck.

The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department said the crash is still under investigation and neither drugs nor alcohol were factors in this collision.
