1919 – 2014
BROCKTON, Mass. — Lorna (Smith) Starbird, 94, died Sunday, June 8.
She was born in Lewiston on Sept. 14, 1919, a daughter of the late Walton H. Smith and Laura M. Smith (Tobie). She graduated from Lisbon Falls High School in 1937 and attended Farmington State Normal School in Farmington.
She worked for 35 years as executive secretary for Lissak Shoe Co., of Brockton and New Bedford, Mass., and Sandler of Boston, Newton and Norwood, Mass.
She was a longtime member of the Maine Poets’ Society, formerly the Poetry Fellowship of Maine. For seven years, she volunteered at Brockton Public Library, doing a radio program once a week for WBET.
She also was a volunteer following retirement at the East Side library branch of the Brockton Public Library and as a docent at Fuller Craft Museum in Brockton, Mass.
She is survived by her sister, Carol and her husband, Donald Pulsifer; her niece, Barbara and her husband, Wayne Plummer Jr.; nephews, Gary and Jeffrey Pulsifer; and great-nephew, Garrett Pulsifer.
