NORWAY—Lace up your running shoes, pull on your swim suits and tighten your bike helmets because the annual Norway Triathalon is coming back to town. If approved during a public hearing, it will take place during the Norway Arts Festival on Saturday, July 12.

According to Lee Dassler, who has a hand in putting on the triathalon every year, there are usually around 250 participants.

Selectman Russell Newcomb recommended that the public hearing take place during the selectboard’s next meeting, which is set for June 19.

“It’s a pretty smooth operating machine,” said Dassler about the event.

She said that participants go through the designated courses quickly and the area is always left clean after they leave.

“It’s such a good event, it runs well with no complaints,” Town Manager David Holt agreed.

Though this is an event that happens every year, he said that it still needs to go through the process of a public hearing to see if residents will allow it to take place. The public hearing for the event needs to be advertised before it occurs so that residents know when to attend the meeting.

That is not a problem, Dassler says.

“It gets a little publicity for the Norway Triathalon,” Dassler said. “I think it’s a good thing.”

The public hearing is set for Thursday, June 19, at 7 p.m. in the town office during the selectboard’s meeting.
