PORTLAND — Police in Portland, Maine, say a 46-year-old man illegally used several aliases to convince car dealerships to sell him cars with no money down.

Robert G. Steiner faces two counts of felony theft and four counts of aggravated forgery. Portland police announced his arrest on Monday and say he will likely face additional charges from other jurisdictions.

Police say Steiner stole at least seven vehicles from six different dealerships in southern Maine. They say the total value of the vehicles is greater than $250,000. All the vehicles known to have been stolen have been recovered.

Police say they arrested Steiner on June 5 while he was attempting to steal another vehicle. He is being held at Cumberland County Jail.
