Franco Veterans meet June 10

LEWISTON — The next meeting of the Franco American War Veterans Post 31 will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 10, in the Seniors Room at the Lewiston Armory, Central Avenue.

Danville Grange to meet June 12

AUBURN — Members of Danville Junction Grange 65 will dine at The Village Inn on Thursday, June 12, at 5:30 p.m.

They will then go to the grange hall for a business meeting at 7 p.m. Election of officers for the ensuing year will be held.

Veterans events planned Saturday

LEWISTON — The National Service Officer DAV van will be at Tri County Mental health parking lot at 1155 Lisbon St. from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 21.

The new Community-Based Outpatient Clinic will have a pop-up tent and table to sign veterans up for health care at the new clinic.

The Vet Center also may have their van there that day.

The L/A Veterans Council will have a tent/table display and family and veterans will be able to sign up to have their beloved veteran’s name on the next memorial stone in the Veterans Memorial park.

The American Red Cross Disaster van and Service to Military Families /Emergency Communication will be there signing up volunteers for Red Cross in the community.

The public is invited to come by and sign the “community covenant” and join the L/A MMCN, Maine Military and Community Network. Both Mayors’ offices and state legislature reps are invited to the official signing at 1 p.m.

Baked bean, spaghetti supper

POWNAL — A baked bean and spaghetti supper will be held Saturday, June 21, at the First Parish Congregational Church, 422 Hallowell Road.

Settings will be at 5 and 6 p.m. Tickets are adults $8, children 5-12 $4, children under 5 eat free. To reserve tickets, call Lois at 688-4433.

Participants for strawberry fest

POLAND — The 2014 Poland Spring Heritage Day & Strawberry Festival is looking for community and civic organizations as well as craft vendors to participate in the sixth annual Poland Spring Heritage Day & Strawberry Festival, to be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 28, on the grounds of the Poland Spring Resort.

This family-friendly event boasts numerous activities for the whole family, carnival games, dunk tank, rock climbing wall, horse-drawn carriage rides, cow patty bingo, Androscoggin County EMA/Amateur Radio Club/Oxford County CERT, tours of four historic buildings, Poland Community School student art show and all-you-can-eat everything strawberries, plus more.

To participate as a community or civic organization or as a craft vendor (no food vendors need apply) spaces will be assigned on a first come first serve basis. The deadline is June 20.
