Being a victim of childhood sexual abuse, for years, I was disturbed by the letter from Gabrielle DeMoras (June 3).
If the priests, some of them abusers themselves, are the doctors of the soul, who are the doctors for the children who are damaged for the rest of their lives?
I told myself, I am not bleeding; there are no bones broken. But I have had made bad choices with men all of my life — always making excuses for abusive behavior and often taking the blame myself.
Those who abuse innocent children (who cannot comprehend what is happening to them) should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law and held responsible. There should be no hiding behind crosses and robes and the church in order to get away with the behavior that hurts all of society, costing money and destroying lives.
