KENNEBUNKPORT — Former first lady Barbara Bush is having a low-key birthday in Maine.

A family spokesman says Mrs. Bush, wife of former President George H.W. Bush, is having a private dinner with family members in Kennebunkport, where the family has a summer home. She is celebrating her 89th birthday.

There’ll be another celebration later in the week, when the former president turns 90 on Thursday.

Bush vowed on his 85th birthday — when he went skydiving in Maine — that he intended to do it again on his 90th. But it appears that he’s going for a lower-key approach as well.
