BUCKFIELD — Residents will gather at 9 a.m. Saturday, June 14, at Buckfield Junior-Senior High School to vote on the 2014-15 budget.

 

On Tuesday, June 10, at the municipal building, voters will elect a new selectman. 

 

Scott Violette is on the ballot to replace Warren Wright, whose three-year term is up. He is not seeking re-election. 

 

The proposed 2014-15 net budget is $2.4 million, an increase of $55,088.65 over the 2013-14 budget. If all budget articles pass, residents will see a mill rate increase of $0.50, which amounts to an increase of $62.50 on property valued at $125,000. 

 

The RSU 10 portion of the budget is 63.19 percent of the total budget. The town budget is 33.83 percent, and the remainder is county tax.

 

Voters will be looking at the purchase of a new wheeler truck with plow equipment paid for with a loan not to exceed $180,000. 

 

The winter road maintenance budget is up about $20,000 over last year.

 

The summer roads budget remains the same as last year.  

 

A loan of up to $160,000 for add-ons to the fire-rescue building will be decided by voters. The loan will only be used if it is needed to put items back on the list which had been eliminated by contractors to keep within budget. 

 

Two amendments to the driveway ordinance will be voted on. The first would make the ordinance not apply to entrances/driveways that enter onto Routes 140, 124 or 117. The second would stipulate that after June 14, 2014, no person shall install, alter an existing entrance or change the use of an entrance/driveway without first obtaining from the road commissioner an entrance driveway permit.
