LEWISTON — Police have issued a traffic advisory for Sunday morning, June 1, between 9 and 10 a.m. for the Safe Voices Walk/Run to End Domestic Violence.

The event will result in a number of traffic detours and diversions, and according to a news release from the Lewiston Police Department, is likely to cause some delays.

The race will begin at 9 a.m. at Lincoln and Cedar streets in Lewiston. Those streets, and some side streets, will be barricaded and closed to traffic.

The Bernard Lown Peace Bridge will be reduced to a single lane of traffic to accommodate runners, and through traffic on Lincoln Street will be diverted to Lisbon and Canal streets. Police advise motorists to avoid those streets, and suggest drivers bypass the event area by using South Avenue and Lisbon Street to enter Auburn across Longley Bridge.

The detours will be removed and all traffic flow should be restored to normal around 10 a.m.

The walk portion of the event will begin at 10 a.m. but all roads will remain open.

Police ask motorists to be patient during the event, and to be alert for pedestrians on the road.
