AUGUSTA — A Waterville man who was robbed while his wallet contained his life savings in February has recovered his money.

Edward Cook told police he had been robbed in his North Street home and hit on the head by someone who took his wallet, which contained $3,050. Police found the wallet and the money on Richard Poirier of Clinton, who was charged with four felonies.

A Kennebec County Superior Court judge ordered the wallet returned on Tuesday after a conference with attorneys. Cook told the paper that he is still recovering from the attack.

Poirier pleaded not guilty and remains in jail. The newspaper reported that his attorney, Scott Gurney, objected to the return of the money.
