FARMINGTON — The Board of Selectmen unanimously agreed that the town should become a member of the nonprofit Maine Tourism Association.
It voted to fund $280 for membership and the distribution of town brochures at seven state visitor information centers, including those on the Maine Turnpike.
Membership includes such items as a listing and photo on the association’s website along with other listings and links, including one to Farmington’s new website.
A new town brochure was designed and funds from the Tax Increment Financing District were used to print 10,000 copies. These are now stored in boxes at the Municipal Building, Town Manager Richard Davis said.
“People will pick these up,” Chairman Ryan Morgan said, and taken to the visitor center locations. “It’s a great idea to get the word out.”
Since 1921, the Maine Tourism Association has gathered and distributed tourism information to visitors.
In other business, the board awarded a street-striping bid for $11,600.16 to Lucas Striping of Sidney.
Lucas was the lowest bidder and striped town streets last year, Davis said. The cost includes a wider stripe and better paint as recommended by the Department of Transportation, he said. An amount of $20,000 was budgeted for the work.
The board awarded a contract for $3,950 for basketball court repair and resealing work at Hippach Field to Advantage Tennis.
The Parks and Recreation Department included $2,265 in its budget for the project and have a matching amount available from the Peter Mills Trust Fund, Director Steve Shible said in a memo to the board.
